General Information

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors to our home at The Cartwheel, which  is a family run six bedroom guest house. The house was built in 1869 from traditional Lakeland slate. It is situated in a quiet residential street, convenient for the town centre, Lake and fell walks. If you have any specific questions please feel free to give us a call and we will endeavour to do our best to help. Unfortunately, the age and design of the house and facilities make it unsuitable for those with mobility difficulties and children under the age of 12yrs.

  • There is a frequent bus service to Keswick with the main bus station being located outside Booths Supermarket in town, which is an approximate 10 minute walk from the house. Alternatively, there are a number of Taxi companies in the town who could collect you from the bus stand.
  • The nearest Train station is located in Penrith approximately 20 miles away which is connected to Keswick by the aforementioned frequent bus service or private hire vehicle.
  • We can be contacted via Telephone, Mobile telephone, text and email. (See details at bottom of this page).
  • Although we don’t have a private car park, there is ample on street parking in the adjacent streets which is un-restricted and FREE.

  • If you are arriving via Public Transport and need somewhere to drop your luggage prior to 4pm, The Laundry on Bank Street provides a £2 bag drop service.
  • We are available to assist guests with any luggage as required.

  • Mobile telephone reception is good in the town and in the house but may vary slightly inside due to the thickness of the walls, a characteristic of  Victorian buildings! In the  valleys and on the fells mobile phone signal can be poor or even non existent and       3G / 4G may be unavailable. However, on the tops of the fells a mobile signal can often be obtained.
  • We have BT superfast fibre broadband WiFi which is free for you to use.
  • There is a local SPAR shop within 50m which is open early morning until late evening, 7 days per week.
  • Fire Safety notices are posted in all rooms. We do ask our guests to familiarise themselves with them.
  • Should you need assistance in the event of an evacuation, please make this known to us upon arrival.

  • We are happy for guests to bring snacks and drinks into the bedrooms but ask that you take care of our rooms. We do not allow take-away food / meals in the bedrooms as these can leave an odour in the room or mark furnishings.
  • There are 2 laundries in Keswick if you need to wash your clothes; our rooms are not designed for washing or for drying of wet clothes. If you get wet outside we are happy to dry your clothes for you in our drying area. The laundries are situated on Bank Street and Helvellyn Street.
