The Cartwheel Guest House - Access
Statement
INTRODUCTION
We aim
to cater for the needs of all visitors to our home at The Cartwheel,
which is a family run six bedroom guest house. The house was built in
the late 1860�s from traditional Lakeland slate. It is situated in a
quiet residential street, convenient for town centre, Lake and fell
walks. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you
have any specific questions please feel free to give us a call and we
will endeavour to do our best to help.
PRE-ARRIVAL
-
There is a frequent bus
service to Keswick with the main bus station being located outside
Booths Supermarket in town, which is an approximate 10 minute walk
from the house. Alternatively, there are a number of Taxi companies in
the town who could arrange to collect you from the bus stand.
Accessible taxis operate within the area and we can make and necessary
bookings for you.

The nearest Train
station is located in Penrith approximately 20 miles away which is
connected to Keswick by the aforementioned frequent bus service or
private hire vehicle.

ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING FACILITIES

Although we don�t have a
private car park, there is ample on street parking in the adjacent
streets which is un-restricted and free.

We usually accept guests
after 4 pm. In order to ensure rooms are cleaned and ready, but should
you wish to arrive earlier, please feel free to give us a call nearer
the time to agree an alternative arrival time. Arrivals can be also be
arranged after 8.pm by prior arrangement.

We are available to
assist guests with any luggage as required.
ENTRANCE
AND RECEPTION
-
The front entrance
consists of a latched back outer door 92 cms wide which has one step
15 cms high into a porch area at 1.3 sqm with a tiled
floor. Then an inner half glazed door 80 cms wide.

The door bell is located
on the right hand frame within easy reach.
-
The outer door is
latched back during the day and closed after 10 pm but not locked.
-
The inner door is on a
yale lock and is locked at all times.
-
Guests are provided with
a key to the inner door and access can be made at all times. We ask
for consideration if entering the house late at night, so as not to
disturb other guests.

The hallway is 120 cms
wide, has a wood floor with carpet runner leading to the dining room, stairs and our
private quarters.
STAIRS
-
Both the hallway and the
stairs are carpeted in entirety.
-
Stairs are 13 cms high,
89 cms wide and 26 cms in depth.
-
There are ten steps to a
small 3.5 sqm landing.
-
The shared bathroom for
rooms 3 and 6 is off this landing.
-
Turn continue up a
further ten steps to a small 4.5 sqm first floor landing.
-
Rooms 1, 2 and 3 are off
this landing.

Turn and continue up a
further ten steps to the second small 2.4sqm half landing

Turn and continue up a
further ten steps to the 4.9 sqm second floor landing.

Rooms 4, 5 and 6 are off
this landing.

There is a solid wood
banister rail up the entire stair case on the right hand side.
DINING ROOM
-
Situated on the ground
floor, off the entrance hall.

The door is 91 cms wide
opening into Breakfast room and is wedged open during use.

Dining Room is carpeted.
-
Tables are 74 cms high
with legs at each corner, are free standing and can be moved on
request.

Chairs do not have arms,
are 47 cms high and have padded seats.

It is self service for
cereals, fruit and juices, but we will be happy to assist should help
be required.
SHARED BATHROOM � ROOMS 3 AND 6
The
bathroom is 4.4 sqm in size and is located off the first half landing,
being 10 steps down from room 3 and 30 steps down from room 6. (Although
Room 6 does have private use of a WC on the second floor, just adjacent
to the room). It has a vinyl tiled floor and is equipped with a bath
with 53 cms high sides, separate shower cubicle 75 cms wide which has a
tray step 14 cms high, corner basin 81 cms high and toilet 42 cms high.

ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION

Mobile telephone
reception is usually good in the town, however in the house and
valleys and fell tops, it can be poor or even non existent.

Fire Safety notices are
posted in all rooms and information files. We do ask our guests to
familiarise themselves with them.

Heat detectors are
fitted in the kitchen and ground floor areas with smoke detectors in
all the rooms.
-
Sirens are located on
the ground floor and landings.
-
Should you need
assistance in the event of an evacuation, please make this known to us
upon arrival.

We are happy to store
any medication or food you require, but do ask you to note that this
is not a 24 hour service, so you will need to arrange collection times
in advance.

assist with your luggage if required.

Normal Check in is after 4pm but before 8pm. Alternative arrival times
